The 1st international symposium on Broomcorn millet organized by the NorthwestA&FUniversity will be held in Yangling, Shaanxi, P.R.China in August 25 to 31, 2012 Broomcorn millet is one of the long history crop cultivated in the world, it is not only tolerant to drought and infertile conditions, but also adapt to many adverse environments. Broomcorn millet is more rich in nutrients than most of the important cereal crops and has great potential for development, but it is not fully exploited now. In order to promoting the development of the broomcorn millet in the world, strengthening the exchanges and cooperation in scientific research among the major production countries, increasing socio-economic development and improving people’s living standards, scientists from China, Russia, Ukraine, Slovenia, Japan, South Korea and other countries decided to convene the 1st International Symposium on Broomcorn Millet(1st ISBM), so that a platform for the international millet cooperation and exchange could be established
On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to invite scientists working in broomcorn millet from all over the world to take part in the 1st International Symposium on Broomcorn Millet(1st ISBM), so that we could work together to enhance the researches and production of broomcorn millet in the world.
The symposium will include academic exchange, products display, as post-symposium tour to the broomcorn millet production regions in northern Shaanxi and other activities as well. Representatives from Russia, Ukraine, Slovenia, South Korea, Japan and other countries and regions will attend this symposium, the estimated scale will be about 80 persons.
Scientists and entrepreneurs from all over the world will work together to exchange the latest academic and industrial development about broomcorn millet, and discuss the future of broomcorn millet trends in order to promote the research and production of broomcorn millet in the world.
The symposium will be held in Yangling, China, where is the origin of China’s agriculture civilization. ‘Houji’, the ancestor of Chinese agriculture, started his works on research, education and extension of agricultural technology here in the ancient days. Nowadays, Yangling is a famous ‘agricultural city’ in the world, is the only one demonstration area for agricultural high-tech and industry in China. It is located in the middle of Shaanxi province, 82km in the west from Xi’an city, the start point of Silk Road from Asian to Europe, there is an international airport.
After the symposium, the post-symposium tour is arranged to visit Yulin city, the major broomcorn millet growing area in northern Shaanxi province, and also the main producing area in China, also is the transition zone between Loess Plateau and Mu Su Desert. Along the post-symposium tour, not only you can see the geographical landscape of Loess Plateau, but also can learn about the production of broomcorn millet, local customs, and taste traditional food and other small grain dishes. Xi’an is another visiting site, you can visit Emperor Qin’s Museum (the Terracotta Warriors), Ancient City Wall of Xi’an, Bell Tower, Banpo Museum and other historical sites.

6. Post-conference tour
There are 3 routes which participants could choose in the following.
(1) one-day tour in Xi’an
A one-day tour in Xi’an is arranged to visit Emperor Qin’s Museum (the Terra Cotta Warriors) and Ancient City Wall of Xi’an on August 28, 2012. The cost is EUR€100.00.
(2) Four-day study tour in NorthernShaanxiProvince
A four-day study tour is arranged to visit the northern Shaanxi province, the major area for broomcorn millet production in ShaanxiProvince, from August 28 to 31, 2012. During the tour you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi province, visit broomcorn millet processing plants and local agricultural research institutions. In the meantime, the tour will also be arranged to visit the local historical sites and tourism attractions.
The participants will leave the hotel at 8:00 a.m. on August 28 and return to Xi’an in the evening of August 31. The tour route will go from Yangling through Yan’an and Yulin to FuguCounty, and then come back toYulin or Xi’an.
The cost is EUR€350.00 including accommodation, dining, ticket and transportation. The reservation is needed before the symposium.
(3) Four-day study tour in northern ShaanxiProvince and one-day tour in Xi’an
Participants will join the group for study tour in northern Shaanxi Province for four days (August 28-31) (like 1) and then have a one-day tour in Xi’an (like 2), visiting Emperor Qin’s Museum (the Terracotta Warriors) and Ancient City Wall of Xi’an on September 1, 2012. The cost is EUR€450.00.
